Sri Lanka's National Digital ID initiative to be completed in 2026

Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has announced plans to implement a nationwide digital ID system within the next 18 months. The initiative aims to digitize the country’s economy and streamline government services.

The president emphasized the importance of the digital ID in addressing challenges such as corruption and inefficiency. The project is expected to improve the delivery of public services and boost economic growth.

The new biometric national ID system will utilize fingerprints, facial recognition, and retina scans to assign unique ID numbers to individuals.
