Principles and Recommendations for a Vital Statistics System Guidelines The Principles and Recommendations provide guidance on establishing a functioning system for collecting, processing and disseminating vital statistics; improving sources of vital statistics, primarily the functioning of the civil registration system and its components; and the role of complementary sources of vital statistics, such as population censuses, household surveys and public-health records.
Companion Guide for Producing a Vital Statistics Report Guidelines This guide helps countries completing a Vital Statistics Report by offering a step-by-step approach. Describing the concepts, source and methodologies needed to produce the relevant graphs and tables for a report, it provides guidance on how to interpret and write about the results. Along with the template and Excel workbook (below), it is a comprehensive tool to engage more easily in the production of a full vital statistics report.
Vital Statistics Report Template Template Along with the guide for producing a Vital Statistics Report, this template provides a structure for a vital statistics report. It includes tables and graphs that can be filled via the workbook (below) as well as text to help explain and interpret the tables. 
Workbook for Vital Statistics Report Excel Tool This workbook has been developed to assist in the completion of the Vital Statistics Report template. It contains pre-populated graphs that can be updated and modified and copied into the template, along with working examples on data adjustment, data redistribution, a life table and age standardization.

International Classification of Diseases Guidelines This page gathers different documents on the use of the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems (ICD). The ICD is the international standard defining the universe of diseases, disorders, injuries and other related health conditions, listed in a comprehensive, hierarchical fashion. It allows for the monitoring of causes of death and international comparison.
Analysing mortality levels and causes-of-death (ANACoD) Tool Causes of death data can often suffer from lack of accuracy or details. The ANACoD electronic tool, based on Excel, enables users to conduct a comprehensive analysis of data on mortality levels and causes of death. The tool automatically reviews the data to identify these issues, presents the results in the form of easy to use tables and charts, and provides the opportunity to compare the findings with those from other groups of countries.
ANACONDA Mortality Data Quality Assessment Tool Tool Similarly, the ANACONDA tool offers an analysis of causes of death data to identify issues in the data. Based on a specific software, it can be approached via courses.
CRVS Knowledge Gateway Learning Center E-learning The CRVS Knowledge Gateway Learning Center constitutes a hub for consolidated available knowledge, tools, guidelines and standards. It is a convenient resource to draw upon to help accelerate CRVS improvement strategies.
CRVS Knowledge Gateway Learning Center: Improving quality and presentation of civil registration and vital statistics data E-learning As part of this Learning Center, one of the topics is the improvement of the quality and presentation of civil registration and vital statistics data. Presented by thematic chapters, it touches on all the aspects to keep in mind when presenting vital statistics data.
Civil Registration and Vital Statistics Systems – Basic level E-learning This course provides practical tools and approaches to achieving 21st century state-of-the-art CRVS systems that are linked to identity management systems and tailored to local contexts. This self-paced format is offered for busy professionals who are able to take the course at their own pace and finish at any time.
Civil Registration and Vital Statistics Systems – Advanced level E-learning This course provides a deeper overview of tools needed to build efficient CRVS systems. It is designed for professionals who want to get a full grasp of the opportunities available to strengthen CRVS systems. It requires having completed the Basic level of the course and is facilitated, taking place during organized sessions.
Population Analysis for Policies & Programmes E-learning The primary focus of this course is to introduce the user to the methods used by demographers to analyze population data, and the sources of this data and the methods used to collect this data. Throughout the course, students are introduced to the types of issues of interest to demographers through real examples.
Tools for Demographic Estimation E-learning This website brings together in one place, and in a user-friendly style, key methods used by demographers everywhere to measure demographic parameters from limited and defective data
World Population Prospect Data On this page, different population estimates and projections for 1950-2100 can be found for countries and regions. The main results are presented in a series of Excel files displaying key demographic indicators and can offer a reference to compare the population or analyze the completeness of registered events (especially in the Annual Demographic Indicators file).
WorldPop Data This website contains demographic data, linked to spatial data. As such, it offers insights on the repartition of the population within countries, which is essential for disease burden estimation, epidemic modelling, resource allocation or disaster management.
Midterm Questionnaire of the CRVS Decade Excel Tool This page presents the 45 questionnaires that were submitted for the midterm of the Asia and the Pacific CRVS Decade. Countries can use their own questionnaires to check the data that was submitted, the details provided, as well as the international data to compare it with.
Data4Health Part II, Workshop I Presentations As part of the “Project to Strengthen National Capacities in Producing and Disseminating Vital Statistics from Civil Registration Records in Asia and the Pacific”, several workshops were organized to present countries with key concepts. of the focus of this workshop was on data quality, fertility and birth and death registration completeness. You can find here the presentations delivered at the workshop.
Data4Health Part II, Workshop II Presentations The second workshop of the project contains mostly presentations on mortality and causes of death, as well as on report writing.
Workshop on Communication and Dissemination of Vital Statistics Data Presentations The third workshop of a previous phase of the same project focused on communication and dissemination of vital statistics data. The presentations are designed to enable countries to produce several key outputs; e.g., a strategic communication plan, verbal communication “pitches” articulating key messages, infographic designs and post-event work plans.
