India aims to reinforce the link between national ID system and civil registration

The Indian Parliament is set to introduce a Bill to amend the Registration of Birth and Death Act, which would aim to make Aadhaar (India's national ID number system) mandatory for the registration of vital events. The Bill would also require states to frequently and routinely share data on registered births and deaths with the Registrar General of India in order to continuously update the National Population Register.
